The Days We Live For......August Journal
Aug 24, 2009
“For a lyric that sounds like it was thought up after prolonged exposure to the Hallmark Channel (perhaps scrawled on the inside of a chocolate box during a commercial break), it begs surprising attentiveness of its multitasking minivan mama audience: The difference between the verses and the chorus is in the contrast between the days you live through and the days you live for. That is, bad days and good days. If Mica Roberts is to be believed, you will experience both of them. Good to know.” CM Wilcox

I like the Hallmark Channel and I also like Lifetime. I enjoy chocolates, though not nearly as much as I love chips and queso and margaritas. I think that women who drive mini-vans to take their children to soccer games and dance classes are honorable women and although I am not one of them, I certainly respect them much like I respect the message of life...the idea that there are days we live through and days we live for.

There are days we live for and there are moments. Breaths. Words. Images. Vignettes....

...A collage of images that we refer back to when we are on the edge, when we are just simply trying to get through the night, when we simply do not think that we can handle one more tear, one more heartache, when the emptiness is overwhelming and Sadness is kicking Joy’s ass, and just when the day is more than we can live through we hit a day to live for... that proverbial first home run and set of keys and ring...too cliched for you? I can’t apologize.

If the words fell upon your ears as a collection of messy metaphors and the figurative language missed the mark for you, I can’t apologize.

If the similes and analogies and cliches weren’t able to pierce the literal wall of words that barricades your heart, I can’t apologize.

I can’t apologize but I can feel bad that the simplicity of this life has been lost for you. I feel bad that you see Country Music of the 21st century as so literal. The beauty is in between the lines. And that isn’t a beauty that the eyes see...there I go with those cliches again...

Ironically, the day I read your review would be a day you live for and not through Mr. Wilcox. And, I would explain that but I would hate for you to miss out on the opportunity to figure out my paradox...

Thank you for continuing with me on this journey,

xo, m
